Salvation and Stilettos Blog

This is my last post in a Blog Series for 2014. I will more than likely post again, I just do not plan to begin a new series as I am trying to focus the last few weeks of 2014 on a writing project that needs my attention. [More Details Later :)] THANK YOU for your patience and flexibility!
As I began this series, Disciples' Do's and Don'ts, I was not sure of how the Holy Spirit would lead us through Matthew 10. But as I look back I must say that this brief journey has encouraged and challenged me as a follower of Jesus Christ. Thus, as we now reflect on these final verses of the chapter, I am even more aware of the need for my commitment to the teachings of our Savior to be FULLY RESOLVED. In other words, especially as I think about the social climate of today - police brutality, black on black crime, child abuse, school shootings, cyber-bullying, racism, sexism, religious intolerance, and discrimination on all levels - there is no space or time for believers to waver in their faith. When we are not the light or when we only let our light shine in convenient places, we lose every time....not necessarily as victims of the above but as weak and double-minded people who miss the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ in this dark world.
When we take up our cross and choose to live for Jesus, the hope and faith and love and joy and peace that fills our hearts will be disturbed. That is a given. The devil has come to steal, to kill, and to destroy. Therefore, any challenges to us bearing fruit of the Spirit is to be expected. But this is our HOPE... our Lord has come that we might have LIFE and that we might have it more abundantly and GREATER is He that is IN us than the evil that is in this world! So, my friends, we must be FULLY RESOLVED to live our lives at maximum capacity in our faithfulness to following Jesus Christ.
And with all of that being said, Jesus makes it clear in these final verses of Matthew 10, exactly what it looks like to live a life that is FULLY RESOLVED to follow:
38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
“If you don’t go all the way with me, through thick and thin, you don’t deserve me. If your first concern is to look after yourself, you’ll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to me, you’ll find both yourself and me." [MSG]
40 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.
41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and
whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward.
“We are intimately linked in this harvest work. Anyone who accepts what you do, accepts me, the One who sent you. Anyone who accepts what I do accepts my Father, who sent me. Accepting a messenger of God is as good as being God’s messenger. Accepting someone’s help is as good as giving someone help. This is a large work I’ve called you into, but don’t be overwhelmed by it." [MSG]
42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
"It’s best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty, for instance. The smallest act of giving or receiving makes you a true apprentice. You won’t lose out on a thing.” [MSG]
Friends, Be it FULLY RESOLVED, that when you take up your own cross, look to Jesus, become a messenger carrying the Gospel, endure acceptance and rejection of you and your Jesus, start small in your giving and receiving kind acts, you will NOT lose!
BlogFam, Are you FULLY RESOLVED to follow Jesus?
