Major Headlines!

Posted on November 20, 2014 at 9:29 AM

I am convinced that Jesus knew the headlines we would read about today.  I do not think that Jesus is in anyway surprised or shocked by the twisted dramas in the lives of people all over the world.  We might be taken aback by the hatred, betrayal, and negative motives of people in the news or at our jobs or in our homes or down the street; but none of this mess catches Jesus off guard.  Actually, he mentions a few of the scenarios in Matthew 10 as he forewarns the disciples of situations they might see as they carry the Gospel and possible reactions to it.

Matthew 10:21- 23
21 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. 22 You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

Friends, verses 21 and 22 have been MAJOR HEADLINES in this century and most likely in centuries before the 21st.  I honestly have not gotten used to reading or hearing about them.  I do not think I ever want to get used to living in a world so full of everything that is not characteristic of our Creator.  And the ONLY way, I can keep my head above the fragments of evil and the shadows of death in this world is to KEEP MY EYES ON JESUS and PRAY about the headlines!

Now, this might be easier said than done because in naming these MAJOR HEADLINES, Jesus does not put the disciples above experiencing hatred or persecution themselves.  Those who follow Christ might find themselves in the headlines for one reason or another and it might not be because you are so anointed.  It just might be because your presence or your message has agitated the status quo making people - friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors - feel uncomfortable with the TRUTH.  But you are not given a pass or given any kind of exemption, you are to stand firm to the end and just keep pressing on through the "towns" and places the Lord has sent for you to go.

Friends, BE STRONG IN THE LORD and in the POWER of HIS MIGHT! And in all your efforts, may your intentions be to make JESUS the MAJOR HEADLINE of your life!

Blessings, Glory, and Sunshine!
