HOPE: An Introduction

Posted on September 8, 2014 at 9:40 AM

BlogFam -
I have HOPE.  I was thinking and praying about this word HOPE a few days ago and I am grateful for the HOPE that I have.  I know that in spite of the things I go through and the people I encounter, I can continue to have peace of mind and joy in my spirit because of the HOPE I have in Jesus Christ.  In fact, I often quote the lyrics of an old hymn that you might know... "My HOPE is built on nothing less, than Jesus blood and righteousness.  I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name.  On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.  All other ground is sinking sand."  These words bless me over and over again as I am challenged by whatever comes my way... circumstances fluctuate, people are fickle but Christ is solid.  And so, in the midst of it all and in spite of it all, I choose to place my HOPE in Christ!

Over the next few weeks, and for as long as I am led, we will look at different verses of scripture that talk about HOPE.  Let's look at our first verse and probably the foundational verses for this series... Proverbs 23: 17-18:

Do not let your heart envy sinners,
but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord.
There is surely a future hope for you,
and your hope will not be cut off.

Friends, HOPE is defined in many ways but one of those definitions says that HOPE is that feeling that everything will work out for the best.  And this definition, in light of our verse for reflection should give you some relief from any anxiety you might have felt and put a smile on your face.  For you do not have to be jealous of those who seem to be getting ahead by doing the wrong things.  You do not have to be envious of those who seem to advance by being disrespectful and shady in their dealings. You might feel some kind of way about the progress of those who are not pursuing Christ, but you do not have to be resentful of them.  Instead, ALWAYS be zealous for the fear of the Lord!  Meaning, focus your passion and energy on pleasing the Lord in what YOU do and say!  When you place your HOPE in Jesus Christ, ALL things really will work together for YOUR good.  There is surely a future hope for you AND your HOPE, when placed in the Lord, will NOT be cut off!  Whatever you are looking forward to in the will of the Most High, it will come to pass in God's time and your HOPE will be satisfied in God!

Blessings, Glory, and Sunshine!
