#TheAffirmation: Confess Christ

As members of the Christian Church,
We confess that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of the living God,
and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world.

For as long as it takes and unless otherwise re-directed, I will be walking through the Affirmation of Faith of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  "This confession is the opening paragraph in the Preamble to the Design of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  It is used by many Disciples congregations in worship as an affirmation of the faith of the church throughout the ages – not as a “test of fellowship,” but as a statement of faith that identifies the Disciples’ commitment to and place within the universal and ecumenical church."

I confess Christ.
I confess that Jesus is the Christ.
The ONE who gives me LIFE
The ONE who is my LIGHT
I confess Christ.
As the ONLY
By the Spirit
Of a Virgin
In a Stable
I confess Christ.
Son of God
The Living God.
The Giving God.
The Loving God.
The Forgiving God.
The Faithful God.
I confess Christ.
And Proclaim
My Heart's Aim
Bring Him Fame
In His own Name
I confess Christ.
Lord over all
Savior of us all
At the beginning of it all
I confess Christ.

I often wonder who or what it is we confess in our lives.  The truth is that we often confess lack, despair, defeat, and even death more readily than we actually confess Christ.  I know that we like to "keep it real" and we want to "keep it 100," but how bad must "it" get, how far must we go before we confess Christ?

If we believe that Jesus is the Christ and the Son of the LIVING God, then why not confess Christ FIRST in every situation and circumstance that inspires or discourages us?  This might seem like an easy question to answer because many times in our hearts, deep down in our hearts, we believe in Christ BUT our mouths confession of His authority over every area of our lives is delayed or even denied.

I know what you say is in your heart BUT what is your mouth saying?
I am NOT a mind reader.  I am NOT interested in trying to anticipate your eventual confession after you have explored every option but Christ or over compensate for your silence based on what I want to hope for you.  Just spare us of all of your drama AND Confess Christ... FIRST.

Confess that His presence and power and preeminence over you and everything that concerns you is where you stand on your worst and best days.  Confess Christ FIRST and stop acting like you have it all together when you are barely hanging on or making people feel sorry for you such that their pity gives you the undeserved attention you usually receive.

You are wasting your own time and energy and that of your sisters and brothers by not confessing Christ FIRST.  For when we confess Christ, we are speaking a word of authority that can bring us peace and give us hope.  If you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, then confess HIS name and YOU will be saved... healed... affirmed... set free... or whatever else it is that you need.  Just. Confess. Christ.
