Getting to Know God....

Getting to Know God... Getting to Know All about God #BloggingontheGO 2 Peter 1:1-4 MSG I, Simon Peter, am a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ. I write this to you whose experience with God is as life-changing as ours, all due to our God's straight dealing and the intervention of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Grace and peace to you many times over as you deepen in your experience with God and Jesus, our Master. Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received! We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you—your tickets to participation in the life of God after you turned your back on a world corrupted by lust. Greetings! BlogFam, if there is any one relationship that you must prioritize in every season, at every stage, in every transition, with every opportunity, through all adversity, you must prioritize your relationship with God through Jesus Christ. You will meet a lot of people. You will leave a lot of people. You will carry some people with you. And in order to know who to meet, leave, or carry, you must be hearing from God. I know that this sounds like an elementary admonition but as elementary as it may be, too many of us take God's presence for granted when we see that God's purposes and promises are being fulfilled in our lives. Yes it is true. We somehow tend to disregard some of the most basic spiritual practices when we see the light at the end of the tunnel, when we see that the Lord has not left or forsaken us, when we see that all things are definitely working together for our good. We have a tendency, in those significant moments, to push out prayer, sit out of Bible Study, forego fasting, and walk away from worship when we are clearly walking in favor. Unfortunately, too often we begin to do the opposite or at least the intensity and passion with which we sought God before the windows of heaven were open begins to fade fast. And on today, you are being forewarned! You do not get a pass to excuse you from doing everything you know to do that is right and righteous, good and godly, healthy and holy. You are not excused because things are going well. You are not excused because of your present success. You are not excused because you think you have already done enough of that "churchy stuff" to last you until the next bump in the road. BlogFam, you knew God on yesterday and in what used to be but things have changed, you have changed and its high time that you diligently pursue getting to know all about God in this new season of your life. When Peter pens this letter, he is an old man, a seasoned saint, he has more years behind than he has ahead YET he has not lost his fervor, his passion, or his zeal for the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Even in his old age, he is getting to know God and encouraging those who read his letter to do the same. I, Simon Peter, am a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ. I write this to you whose experience with God is as life-changing as ours, all due to our God's straight dealing and the intervention of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Peter identifies himself and then he jumps directly into the purpose of his letter. He is clearly addressing those who say they know God, those who can appreciate God's willingness to be known, those whose life experiences have revealed the presence and the character of God and God's Son, Jesus. He continues.... Grace and peace to you many times over as you deepen in your experience with God and Jesus, our Master. Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received! Peter exhorts the recipients of this letter to grace and peace and godly living. Though he is seeing hints of the sun setting on his life, he does not alleviate the responsibility of those in a life changing relationship with God from daily accepting God's invitation to a personal and intimate relationship. Saying YES to this holy invitation...this is what pleases God. AND... We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you—your tickets to participation in the life of God after you turned your back on a world corrupted by lust. Peter essentially reminds us of the rewards of accepting God's invitation. When we say YES, we also are given certain promises and privileges. Furthermore, when we say YES to God, we are turning our back and closing our ears to the beck and call of a world corrupted by lust. When we say YES to God, we are also saying NO to every option that is not in line with a life of God. In other words, just because you said YES one time does not mean you will not have to say YES again and again and again and again. BlogFam, as you move on, say goodbye, prepare to transition, or accept your current position, your previous life experiences with God are clues to how God will keep you in the future and reminders that you must continue to say YES to even the most basic acts of service and sacrifice in order to keep getting to know God. You cannot afford to get comfortable with fulfilling the desires of your flesh or satisfying the priorities of this corrupt world. You must continue to accept God's invitation to a personal and intimate relationship with you as you have in the past, as you need to do right now, and as you will have to do in the future. BlogFam, today I pray that you will have a personal revival so that you can get to know God in a fresh way. I pray that grace and peace and godly living would be yours richly. I pray that you would have no regrets about declining the world's corrupt way of being and doing. I pray that your YES to God and Christ would be filled with joy. I pray that you would never get tired of getting to know God, of getting to know all about God in a personal and intimate way. I pray that the promises and privileges of being in a loving relationship with God would not tarry but will come quickly and overflow in your life..... IN JESUS NAME.... God loves you and I do too!!!
