Raise Your Praise AGAIN!

Posted on September 30, 2014 at 5:12 AM Comments comments (0)
Greetings!

BlogFam,
I have had many opportunities to call congregations to worship and one of my favorite opening remarks is: "This is the day that the Lord has made.  Let us REJOICE and BE GLAD in it!"  [Psalm 118:24] I love this verse because it is a declaration that acknowledges our wonderful and awe-inspiring Creator and demands that an attitude of praise and thanksgiving be in our hearts for ALL that the Lord has done.  In other words, in spite of all the twists and turns of life that leave us feeling vulnerable, desperate, worried, and scared, if we redirect our focus on the Creator of heaven and earth, we have reason enough to give God a praise!

And while it might be hard to muster up a smile through the tears rolling down your face. While it seems like you have to fake it - or "faith" it - until you make it.  While it looks like things are just not going to work out in spite of your very best efforts to respond to the demands of life, family, career, community, and school.  We still have at least ONE... OK...maybe TWO good reasons to REJOICE and BE GLAD.  One - The Lord our God is the creator of the universe today and every day that has been or will come.  Two - You are aware that the number one reason is true and you are alive to REJOICE and BE GLAD.  So,

Why am I discouraged?
Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God!
    I will praise him again—
    my Savior and my God!
[Psalm 43:5, NLT]

Friends, I dare you to PRAISE the Lord AGAIN!  I know that you gave the Lord a praise on yesterday and in that last valley and on that last sick bed and during the last court case and through the last storm... but Praise the Lord AGAIN!

I know you lifted up your hands and danced across the floor in your Sunday shoes, and maybe even spoke in one good tongue before you made it over the last time... but Praise the Lord AGAIN!

I know that you might feel discouraged and you do not know how you will go on.  You might feel sad and you just cannot stand the place you are in right now.  You might just be sick and tired of being sick and tired... but Praise the Lord AGAIN!

Praise the Lord AGAIN because your HOPE is in God and God alone is your Savior.  And God will save you out of this, save you through this, save you in spite of this and save you in the midst of this!  God is always saving us and preserving us, satisfying us and keeping us,  securing us and liberating us, sustaining us and healing us, surrounding us and defending us. And no matter what you are going through right now, you DO have it in you to PRAISE the Lord AGAIN!

BlogFam, keep praising the Lord over and over and over and over AGAIN!  Do not get tired of praising the Lord!  Do not get weary of praising the Lord!  Do not forget to praise the Lord!  Do not neglect to praise the Lord over and over and over AGAIN!

Put your HOPE in God - not your job, your friends, your family,  your circumstances, your intelligence, your finances, or your popularity.... Put your HOPE in God and praise the Lord AGAIN!

My Friends, THIS is the day that the Lord has made. REJOICE and BE GLAD in it!
Say it again.
THIS is the day that the Lord has made. REJOICE and BE GLAD in it!
Say it again.
THIS is the day that the Lord has made. REJOICE and BE GLAD in it!

TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!

GOD LOVES YOU and I DO TOO!
Blessings, Glory, and Sunshine!

Our Treasured Hope in Measured Days

Posted on September 29, 2014 at 6:45 AM Comments comments (0)
Greetings!

BlogFam,
Tomorrow is NOT promised and our days on this earth are numbered, limited, and will one day come to an end.  I know that we do not usually like to talk about the measure of our days, a number of days that is mysterious to all, yet it is a number that we too often take for granted.

It has been about two weeks since I have blogged about our HOPE Series but the scripture for today was on my mind then as it is right now... Psalm 39:4-7

“Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days;
let me know how fleeting my life is.
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth;
the span of my years is as nothing before you.
Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.
6 “Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom;
in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be.
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for?    My HOPE is in you.

Talk about putting things in perspective!  When is the last time you asked the Lord to put your life in perspective as it specifically relates to the time you have left here on earth?  Probably not recently, if ever!  I know that I do think about how time flies but I do not necessarily or frequently think about my life as the "mere handbreath" that it actually is in the grand scheme of eternity.  The truth is that we do NOT have much time on this earth.  For whether you are 8, 18, or 80 years old, you must use the time WISELY that you do have and place your HOPE in the Lord!

Our treasured HOPE in measured days is that GOD is in the midst of it all.  God knows us and God knows the number of days we have to live in this life.  God knows how we are to best use our days to fulfill God's purpose and is willing to steer our lives back on track when we get off course.  God knows  that 8, 18, or 80 years on this earth is nothing in the grand scheme of God's eternal plan and that we are NOT in control of even the breath that we breathe.  God knows that insurance policies and "heaping up wealth" is impossible to provide the security we need in God. God knows the measure of our days and in God we have our treasured HOPE!

So, My Friends, with the few breaths that you do have, I pray that you have and that you will place your HOPE in the Lord!  I pray that you will not take one breath on any day for granted but that you would exhaust your energy in seeking and working to fulfill God's purpose in your life.  Tomorrow is not promised.  Yesterday is gone.  All you have is the gift of Today, which is the present.  So, use your day wisely!

“Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days;
let me know how fleeting my life is."

GOD LOVES YOU and I DO TOO!!!
Blessings, Glory, and Sunshine!

A Formula for LIFE: Hope + Patience + Prayer

Posted on September 11, 2014 at 9:23 AM Comments comments (0)
Greetings!

BlogFam -
As we continue our series about HOPE, I came across this verse in Romans 12:12 that gives us the wisest "formula" we should use to face ANY situation in life -

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

Now I do realize that this might not have always been our first response but after today, I believe that you will reconsider this formula for your current and future battles!

REJOICE IN HOPE
Do you remember one of the definitions that we discovered for the word HOPE?  I hope so.  It is central to this series... it is that feeling that everything will work out for the best.  Hope is THAT kind of feeling and in the spirit it is a deep sense of knowing, trusting, and believing that EVERYTHING will work out for your good.  This is the reason we can REJOICE and take JOY over and over again in the midst of life's challenges.  God is good and God will work everything for our good and in our favor.  We can praise God in advance because when our hope is in the God of all that is good and the God who is working out everything for our good, we can be excited about what is to come... no matter how long it takes... and this brings us to the next part of the formula...

BE PATIENT IN TRIBULATION
Friends, you will play the waiting game in life.  Sometimes your wait may be longer than at other times as you wait on God to move on your behalf but keep waiting and BE PATIENT.  God has NOT forgotten about YOU.  Can I say that one more time?  God has NOT forgotten about YOU!!!  This is very good news!  We know that God is good and God will work everything out for our good but we have to wait.  And in our waiting we must BE PATIENT.  We must resolve in our own minds that God is worth waiting on  no matter what is happening in our lives!  GOD is worth waiting on!  I mean, just think about the times our God has waited on you to love, trust, obey, surrender, pray, praise, worship, listen, lead, show compassion, speak up against unrighteousness or injustice.  And depending on the facts of your current situation, God just might still be waiting on YOU.  So, the least you can do is WAIT ad BE PATIENT with the God of all creation to transform your tribulation.  WAIT on God.  God has NOT forgotten about YOU!

BlogFam, Rejoice in HOPE, Be PATIENT in Tribulation, and...

BE CONSTANT IN PRAYER
Stay connected to God!!!  God is the source of all things good and an ever present help in any time of trouble!  So, God will help you to rejoice and to remain hopeful and to be patient as you seek to maintain your connection with God.  BE CONSTANT IN PRAYER!  Pray everyday and all the time.  There is not ONE thing in your life that does not need to be included in your prayers.  And when you are going through whatever you are going through, PRAYER will help you to be constant in everything that you might want to give up on!  But do NOT give up!  Just keep those prayers going UP and eventually God will lift you UP!  BE CONSTANT IN PRAYER!

BlogFam, this is a formula for facing whatever YOU are going through in life:

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

God is HOPE... Romans 15:13

Posted on September 9, 2014 at 5:46 AM Comments comments (0)
Greetings!

BlogFam,
God is HOPE.  This is a critical statement for the continuity of our series.  I know that you have learned and I pray that you have embraced that God is LOVE.  But have you ever considered that for the things that you are believing God for in your own life by faith, that God must also be your HOPE?  Think about it.

While you watch and pray, wait and pray, wonder if "IT" will really happen and pray, deep down your belief, your faith becomes the foundation of the HOPE that God will hear, respond, act, move on your behalf and "IT" will come to pass.  But if you do not believe that God is HOPE and that the hope of God connects and feeds the hope in your heart, then your faith will waiver and you will become discouraged and distracted because the waiting you will do or that you are currently having to do does not seem to make sense without hope.  For hope is that feeling that everything will work out for the best.  Yet, if you do not agree that God is HOPE, then how do you remain steadfast, unmovable and always abounding in the work, the way, the will, and the wait of God?

Friends, on today, our verse for reflection is my prayer for you throughout this series:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  [Romans 15:13]

It is out of the HOPE of who God already is in time and eternity that we, too, can have HOPE.  And from this kind of HOPE, we are filled with joy and peace for our journey.

God is HOPE.
God is our HOPE.
God gives us HOPE.
God sustains our HOPE.
God keeps our HOPE alive!

So, as we walk through this life, believing that God is HOPE, believing that our best is still YET to come, we can keep pressing on the upward way, gaining new heights everyday because of the HOPE we have in and from our God.  And we will overflow with HOPE, not by simply thinking positively or looking at the bright side, BUT by the power of the Holy Spirit, our HOPE will last...

HOPE: An Introduction

Posted on September 8, 2014 at 9:40 AM Comments comments (0)
Greetings!

BlogFam -
I have HOPE.  I was thinking and praying about this word HOPE a few days ago and I am grateful for the HOPE that I have.  I know that in spite of the things I go through and the people I encounter, I can continue to have peace of mind and joy in my spirit because of the HOPE I have in Jesus Christ.  In fact, I often quote the lyrics of an old hymn that you might know... "My HOPE is built on nothing less, than Jesus blood and righteousness.  I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name.  On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.  All other ground is sinking sand."  These words bless me over and over again as I am challenged by whatever comes my way... circumstances fluctuate, people are fickle but Christ is solid.  And so, in the midst of it all and in spite of it all, I choose to place my HOPE in Christ!

Over the next few weeks, and for as long as I am led, we will look at different verses of scripture that talk about HOPE.  Let's look at our first verse and probably the foundational verses for this series... Proverbs 23: 17-18:

Do not let your heart envy sinners,
but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord.
There is surely a future hope for you,
and your hope will not be cut off.

Friends, HOPE is defined in many ways but one of those definitions says that HOPE is that feeling that everything will work out for the best.  And this definition, in light of our verse for reflection should give you some relief from any anxiety you might have felt and put a smile on your face.  For you do not have to be jealous of those who seem to be getting ahead by doing the wrong things.  You do not have to be envious of those who seem to advance by being disrespectful and shady in their dealings. You might feel some kind of way about the progress of those who are not pursuing Christ, but you do not have to be resentful of them.  Instead, ALWAYS be zealous for the fear of the Lord!  Meaning, focus your passion and energy on pleasing the Lord in what YOU do and say!  When you place your HOPE in Jesus Christ, ALL things really will work together for YOUR good.  There is surely a future hope for you AND your HOPE, when placed in the Lord, will NOT be cut off!  Whatever you are looking forward to in the will of the Most High, it will come to pass in God's time and your HOPE will be satisfied in God!

BE BLESSED!
