Something is Missing

SOMETHING IS MISSING

Friends, I know that I have not written a blog post in a few weeks and I offer no excuses to that end.  But today, I could not move through this day without releasing what is in my head and in my heart.  I honestly feel like my head is about to pop and my heart is about to explode because of all that I am learning, reading, seeing, hearing, feeling and sensing all around me.  And in times like this, I cannot always find the right words to say.  But I am often reminded in these times of the words of a song I learned as a child… Jesus is the answer for the world today… Above Him there’s no other…  Jesus is the way… If you have some questions in the corner of your mind, traces of discouragement and peace you cannot find… Reflections of your past seem to face you every day but this one thing I do know, Jesus IS THE WAY.  And as I write these words, with tear filled eyes, the story of Lazarus comes to mind…. Do you remember that moment as the Bible records it?  That moment when Martha meets Jesus on the road and tells Him… Lord, IF YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN HERE, MY BROTHER WOULD NOT HAVE DIED!

That has to be one of the boldest and directly confrontational and emotional filled moments in the Bible.  Who in their right mind would confront Jesus and basically call Him a slacker because He did NOT show up to heal her brother when she and her sister asked him to come the first time?  Jesus took His sweet time and Lazarus died.  AND Martha is hurt, confused, distraught, and angry that her brother is gone simply because the man who had the power to heal did NOT show up.

Friends, Martha felt like JESUS was the missing piece in her brother’s struggle and when that piece could have come, but chose not to come, she had a few choice words to the Lord on the road to Lazarus’ grave.  Honestly, I would venture to say that there are some followers of Jesus Christ who have the same words for all the confusion and chaos happening all around us and being reported in the news today.  LORD, IF YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN HERE… Maybe Rachel Dolezal would not be confused about her racial identity, the men and women in Charleston would still be alive, the police officer would have kept his knee out of that teenagers back, my dear friend would have been healed from that deadly disease, and so much more…

It is painful and on this moment, I am sad and hurt and frustrated and upset and feeling helpless BUT  I know deep down, very deep down inside that JESUS IS THE ANSWER FOR THE WORLD TODAY and ABOVE HIM THERE’S NO OTHER, JESUS IS THE WAY.  I believe this.  I have to believe this.  I have to believe that there is ONE whose wisdom and power is so far beyond the frailties and fickleness of my humanity and the humanity of those who are the victims or victimizers, oppressors and oppressed, the hated and the beloved.  I have to believe that beyond ALL of this, the Savior of the whole world loves and cares and is still in control.  I have to believe that JESUS is the RESURRECTION and the LIFE that we all need, seek, long for, and want to experience here and now.
Yet, I still want to invoke Martha and say, LORD, IF YOU HAD BEEN HERE…  and even as I write, my Spirit confirms that the I AM is right here.  I hear the Lord saying I AM ALREADY HERE.  I am NOT lost and I am NOT missing.    [Thank You Jesus!]

Friends, I plead with you to BE FAITHFUL.  Let us BE the hands and feet of JESUS everywhere and at ALL times.  We do not have any more time to waste on blaming or criticizing or complaining when we have not been faithful to prayer and Bible Study and coming together as the Beloved Community to seek liberty and justice for ALL people.  The TRUTH is that WE are the ones who are missing from homes, schools, streets, board meetings, city councils, school boards, churches, community centers… Our prayers are missing.   Our positive energy is missing.  Our truth speaking is missing.  Our courage is missing.  Our hope is missing.  Our example is missing.  The Light of Christ shining through us is missing.

And while I respect the tenets of other religious traditions,I am a JESUS follower and I do not want to be found missing from any place that the Lord would have me or my prayers to go.  What about YOU?  Are YOU missing?  I only ask because, the presence of the Lord is already HERE…
IN JESUS NAME…

God Loves You and I Do Too!

YOU Don't Know Me Like THAT! [And I Don't Either]

Greetings!

BlogFam -
I am on Day 8 of the My Vision Fast.  The My Vision Fast is a 21 day journey to seek and to see God's vision for your life.  For more information, visit www.MyVisionFast.com.  I only mention this because the scripture for reflection is actually the assigned reading for the fast on today.

Psalm 139:1-12:

You have searched me, Lord,
    and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
    you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

BlogFam, YOU don't know me! And that is a true statement when I read our scripture for today.  Actually, if I really think about it, I do not even know if I know me like that.  "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain." [Psalm 139:6]  Have you ever really thought about that?  I mean, have you ever really thought about how much you really do NOT even know yourself and how knowing ALL that there is to know about you is "too lofty to attain?"

Friends, I have been in many conversations where people claimed that they "know" me.  I have even had experiences where people claim to not only "know" me but they will try to make decisions for me or speak up for me or maybe even try to take my place.  BUT reading this scripture reminds me that if fully knowing myself is "too wonderful for me" and "too lofty for me to attain," how can anyone even attempt to do any of those things?  I do like to think that people mean well but the truth of the matter is that their well-meaning intentions fall short of all that they think they know.

I am continuously and reverently AMAZED at how AWESOME our God is!  And to think that that God is the ONLY one in the universe who completely knows everything there is to know about me and God STILL loves me is worth giving God praise!  I cannot lie.  There are things that I learn about other people and I will adjust my view of them, distance myself from them, limit my conversations with them, and do whatever I need to do to protect myself from them because of what I think "I know" about them.  The flip side is that others have done the same because of what they think they know about me.  Such is life.  We pass judgments and offer critiques and fall in love based on what we think we know about another person.  But this scripture reveals that WE don't even know ourselves, much less a whole other person.

Think about it.  How many decisions have you made based on what YOU think you know about someone?  How many decisions have been made based on what someone thought they knew about YOU?  And the answer to BOTH questions is: Way too many decisions to count in a lifetime!  So, what are we to do with the ignorance that has been revealed to us on today?

Well, I suggest that we go to the ONE who knows everything there is to know about YOU and ME and EVERYBODY else and still LOVES us anyway!  We go to God and we ask God to help us to get to know ourselves.  We ask God to help us to know what we need to know to be in relationship with our neighbors.  AND we ask God to give us a love for ourselves that helps us to keep one of the greatest commandments which is to LOVE our neighbor as we LOVE ourselves.

That is what we are to do... AND stop acting like you know about others because you probably have only barely scratched the surface of getting to know your own self.

GOD LOVES YOU and I DO TOO!!!
Blessings, Glory, and Sunshine!!!

#RepositionYOURSELF: Live Right, Shift Right

Posted on November 3, 2014 at 10:10 AM Comments comments (1)
Greetings!

This post is for VISIONARIES.

I am one of them.

And I am not sure how this post will actually end or even what direction I am headed but I know this... I do feel a stirring in this season of my life and even possibly in the lives of others for us to SHIFT NOW!  I do not know exactly what that means for the particularity of your situation but I do know this to be true:  The SHIFT that you make in this season MUST be a holistic turnaround for every area of your life.  In other words, mind, body, and spirit will feel the impact of your shift in this season.  This cannot be a New Year's resolution or a singular item on your "To Do List" for next week or next month.  The time is NOW.  I have been thinking and praying about this for a while now as it relates to my own life and I have learned that NOW is the time for me to put all the pieces together for this season.  Next season, I may experience something different and that is OK but I have decided and I am determined that I do NOT want to miss what God has for me NOW.

With all of that being said, I know that part of the shift is simply the DISCIPLINE to do what needs to be done in order to reach the goals, experience the change, see the transformation I want in my life.  Everything must be re-evaluated - including how I spend my time, what conversations I have with others, and where I invest my money.  When people say that they are OPEN, most of the time they are only open to more of what makes them comfortable in the place they are.  BUT when you are truly OPEN to the leading, guiding, and directing of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit cannot be made subject to your personal preferences or limitations.  And because the promise in the Word of God is that NO GOOD THING will the Lord hold back from us, well, I am crazy enough to believe that in this next chapter, phase, season of my life - and even in your life - God WILL do whatever God says God will do.

But let me be responsible with the text and with my encouragement on today.  Here is the verse in its entirety because there is a very clear parameter around this promise:
PSALM 84:11 - FOR THE LORD IS A SUN AND SHIELD:  THE LORD WILL GIVE GRACE AND GLORY: NO GOOD THING WILL HE WITHHOLD FROM THEM THAT WALK UPRIGHTLY.

And there it is!
Friends, we must LIVE RIGHT in order to SHIFT into the RIGHT direction!

The Word that the Lord has spoken over my life AND the instructions that have been given for my next step, may not be the same for you.  That is OK.  I am not worried about that.  I am most concerned that you do "WALK UPRIGHTLY" and remain OPEN for the SHIFT that God wants to do in your life RIGHT NOW!  Your shift might entail preparation or collaboration, disconnection or redirection, activity or more responsibility, networking or job searching.  I do not know but I do care.  So, on today, I want to PRAY for all of my brothers and sisters who are OPEN to whatever SHIFT God desires to make in your life in advance of 2015.  I am praying for those who do not want to wait until the last month of the year to prepare for the greater that is coming when we enter the new year; yet have not dismissed the possibilities for God to continue to answer prayer's in the remainder of THIS year.  I am praying for those who will pray and praise the Lord for all that has already happened in your life and for this restlessness in your spirit letting you know that your best is still yet to come.  I am praying for those who are living right in order to shift into the RIGHT direction.  I am praying for YOU and I believe that God will bless YOU and bless YOU indeed as you trust and obey God's leading, guiding, and directing through this SHIFT.

GOD LOVES YOU and I DO TOO!!!
Blessings, Glory, and Sunshine!

#FREEFlowFriday: I Will Say NO!

Posted on July 18, 2014 at 12:54 PM Comments comments (0)
Greetings!

BlogFam -
On last week, I started this #FREEFlowFriday blogging because I realize that there are thoughts that I have and things I want to say that do not necessarily flow with whatever blog series I may currently be writing at the time.  There are many times when I just want to write what comes to my mind in the moment simply because I have the urge and the unction to write.  So, here we flow again...

This has been a very interesting week and NO I will not splurge on all of the details because that would be way too much for this space and frankly, most of it is none of your business! LOL!  However, I will say that when I feel stretched and recognized that I am being pulled in different directions based on the will and whim of others who deem that their priorities, emergencies, agendas, and dreams are somehow more important than my own, I step back.

YES!  I admit it.  I will step back from anyone or anything that is pushing or pulling me in a way that is unsettling to my own sense of purpose and peace of mind.  I will say NO and give myself permission to refuse to compromise my own sanity.  I will say NO and redirect your sense of urgency away from my calendar so as to avoid whatever anxiety you are trying to impose.  I will say NO and intentionally choose to embrace my own well-being without any guilt or shame.

I advise YOU to do the same.

Actually, I have a role model whose life was completely focused on fulfilling God's purpose for His own life to the exclusion of anyone and anything that would distract Him from that purpose.  JESUS is/was that kind of man.  He models for me the way I must keep the Kingdom of God in mind in EVERY situation and circumstance.  I am not called and I am not committed to going along with expending energy to do anything or meet anyone or participate in conversations that take me far beyond the boundaries of God's purpose for my life.

I will say NO.
And I will say YES.
And I am OK with that.

I pray that on this #FREEFlowFriday you would take the time to regroup and recommit to whatever purpose God has created you to fulfill.  I pray that YOU would have the COURAGE to say NO and to say YES to anyone or anything or any conversation as you seek to remain in the center of the will of God for your own life.

THANK YOU BlogFam! PRE-Birthday Celebration Post - Col. 3:17

THANK YOU BlogFam!
PRE-Birthday Celebration Post

Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it ALL in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Greetings!

BlogFam,

This is a very special week for me!  This is actually the anniversary week of my blog!!! YES!  YES!  As of December 8, I will have been blogging for ONE YEAR!!!  I am very excited about that.  So much has happened in my life over this past year and I am sure that many of you can say the same.  I pray that the Salvation and Stilettos Blog has been an inspiration to you as we reflect on the words of Scripture together in this space.

I know that this blog has been a lifeline for me in this year of transition.  It has been a gift from God to me, a way for me to stay connected to the Spirit and to be held accountable to the community.   I am so grateful for the gift to write and I look forward to the many ways our God will use my gift for His Glory in the Kingdom.

When I began my blog, it really was on a whim. I had not been thinking and planning to do a blog at all.  I had thought about blogging just because I had read so many others and I liked the idea of having a space on the internet to express one’s thoughts at length without the limitation of 140 characters on Twitter and without the competition of being found in the Newsfeed on Facebook.  (Though, I do use both of those social networks to promote my blog J)  I was not seriously thinking about blogging until the day before I started the blog after being inspired by Oprah, of course.  LOL!  I wrote about it briefly in my introductory blog.  Please feel free to read it now!

I have completed a number of series over this last year and I have written nearly300 blog posts this year.  I am not sure about the exact number but I know it is well over 200 blog posts.  I am grateful to the Lord for the gift, the ability, and the opportunity to write and I look forward to writing even more.  Now, to help me celebrate this GREAT accomplishment, I am asking that you do TWO things:
1 – SUBSCRIBE to the Blog and
2 – SUGGEST Topics/Themes for me to write about in 2013.
Will you PLEASE do that for me?  I would greatly appreciate it!!!

I will leave you with this…  My Ministry/Personal Motto is Colossians 3:17

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it ALL in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Friends, I do not know what your dreams/goals/plans for your life are but if you are not working toward them in some shape, form, or fashion, it is time for you to DO SOMETHING!  And as you DO whatever it is you want to do that fulfills the desires of your heart, I PRAY that you would strive to please the Lord in ALL that you DO in word and deed!  AND that you would be grateful to God for the opportunity to pursue your dreams/goals/plans!

BlogFam, THANK YOU for a WONDERFUL year of love, fellowship, discipleship in our online community and I am looking forward to another year of writing your daily spirited concept for the Salvation and Stilettos Blog!!!

GOD LOVES YOU AND I DO TOO!!!

Greetings!

We all have our own personal challenges, trials, struggles, fears, disappointments, doubts, and burdens.  If you do not, then I celebrate with you.  However, for the rest of us, I want you to know that I feel you.

I have been writing this blog for nearly three months now and I can honestly say that I have never doubted my instruction to write.  Yet, today, I will admit to you that there have been a number of mornings when I struggled with what to write.  The thought has crossed my mind – would anybody care if I stopped writing or not?  I have also debated within myself the consequences I might encounter if I say certain things in my reflections.  I have even written and re-written blog posts on the same day because I really want whoever is reading to be inspired, encouraged, and even challenged to change their lives for the better.

At the end of all that see-sawing in my own mind, I sit to write again.  Now, this see-sawing can and it has happened on any number of mornings but, today, I can honestly say that the impression of the Holy Spirit for me to begin this blog resonates so deeply that I know, for me, my writing is a non-negotiable priority of my witness in this world.  Friends, I WRITE by FAITH, and NOT by sight.  And until I am otherwise instructed, I will keep writing until…

With this in mind, I want you to know that today’s verse resonates very strongly with me.

Psalm 73:28
But as for me, it is good to be near God.
I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge;
I will tell of all your deeds.

I have never been an orphan or needed to rely upon the government for family services.  I have never been a foster child.  I have been familiar with many but that is not a part of my own story. However, I have had to seek refuge from the cares of this world, the worries of my life, the pain of my circumstances in the Lord.  Even on those mornings when I cannot seem to find the words to say about a particular scripture or the right scripture to capture the words I want to say, well, I seek refuge in the Lord.  I will sit with my laptop open and hands ready to type and I will wait for the Spirit to move.  I will wait in Him until He says, write.  BlogFam, I know this might sound weird or strange or like I am doing way too much, but as for me, it is GOOD to be near to God….even if that means, I sit and I wait until God chooses to speak.

A few years ago, Stephen Hurd released a worship song with these lyrics – When my heart is overwhelmed, I pray, Lord, lead me to the rock.  Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, oh Lord, higher than I.  I know these lyrics are grounded in scripture, which is probably why they are so powerful; but until you actually have had to run to or rest in THE ROCK that is higher than yourself, you are possibly clueless about the GOODNESS that can come from doing so.

I cannot imagine my life without the ONE who is higher than I.  I cannot imagine my life without the ONE who is closer to me than anyone I will ever know. I cannot imagine my writing without the ONE who inspired me to do so in the first place.  BlogFam, it is GOOD for me to be near to God.  And when I draw near to God, the care that I receive is better than anything I have ever known.  When I seek refuge in God, the protection that I am afforded surpasses the technology of any weapons of mass destruction.  And one of the ways that I have been blessed to tell of all of God’s deeds is through my writing.

BlogFam, today, I ask you to think about how this verse fits into your own life.  Do you think it is good for you to be near to God?  In what ways have you sought the refuge of the Lord? How do you tell of God’s deeds in your own life – using your gifts?

Friends, today I pray that you would celebrate the nearness of God, seek the protective custody of God as your refuge, and that you would tell about the goodness of God to at least one person.  I also pray that when your heart is overwhelmed, that you will not hesitate to say: Lord, lead me to THE ROCK that is higher than I, oh Lord, higher than I!
